2025 Update

Thank you to all the friends of the Jerri Savuto Girls Center sending all your love and support for the Center. Because of your generosity, and with God's help, our 72 girls are attending school and are safe from the threat of female genital mutilation and forced marriage. We continue the work of providing a safe and happy home for these girls in rural Kenya.

On June 28 we’ll celebrate the dedication of the center and also have a “Day of the Girl” Event that week. Mission teams from the Horizon Texas Conference - St. John the Apostle UMC, Arlington and FUMC Denton will be there to celebrate the big day.

Our updated count on the “Adopt a Girl” program:  U.S. adopters have committed to 20 girls, Kenyan adopters have committed to supporting 22 girls, and there are 30 girls yet to be adopted. Please help us get all the girls adopted very soon!! The commitment for adopting a girl is $600 a year which can be paid in monthly installments or the full amount.  Contact Assistant Treasurer Joyce Whiteley for more info.

In February, Jon Hockenberry, Sheldon Haase, and others with the Friends of Maua Methodist Advance Team traveled to the JSGC to assess the needs and its future growth. We are excited by their report of the many possibilities for the future.  We are now in conversation with a charity who wants to partner with us to drill water wells in Tot and Dira.  This is very exciting!

The United Women in Faith’s “Just Energy 4 All Campaign” awarded a $3,000 solar panel grant for the JSGC. The grant, written by FUMC Denton UWFaith Unit, includes sharing the importance of renewable energy not only in Kenya, but in all our own homes, communities, and churches here in the U.S.  Please go to uwfaith.org and search for “Just Energy 4 All” to see information about climate justice.

The Horizon Texas Conference UWFaith has chosen the JSGC as their 2025 Mission Project with a goal to raise $20,000 to complete the security fence around the campus in Tot.  So grateful for the UWFaith mission spirit!

Janet and Dennis Fisher of Marfa Ministry, have created a special puzzle to raise funds for the Jerri Savuto Charitable Foundation (JSCF).  They are available for purchase now for $100 and all proceeds go the JSCF. Look for them at the Marfa Ministry booth at the many gift fairs across the country or contact Marfa Ministry directly.

We are still working to match the $20,000 challenge Building Fund grant from our friends in Colorado. All money given to the JSCF Building Fund will go to match this gift. So please be sure to designate your gifts as “Building Fund” when making a donation one of these ways:

Please tell your friends about the positive impact of the Jerri Savuto Girls Center and the amazing work being done!  Together we give these girls a future full of hope! Your prayers and financial gifts are essential to this ongoing work.  I’m so grateful for all you have done and will do.

Please look for an update in July following the dedication of the Jerri Savuto Girls Center on June 29 and get news of mission teams time together with the girls, our Kenya board members and supporter and staff.
